Amec scoops Kuwait contract

ONE of the final scars from the first Gulf War will start to be healed after engineering firm Amec yesterday signed a deal to repair oil fields in Kuwait that were damaged by Saddam Hussein’s forces in 1990-91’s invasion.

The contract was awarded by the United Nations Compensation Committee and will be managed by the Kuwait Oil Company (KOC).

Amec has been working in Kuwait since the end of the first Gulf War and holds a five-year contract for engineering work at KOC’s three refineries.

Hisham Mahmoud, president of Amec’s environment and infrastructure unit, said: “We recognise the significance of this project to Kuwait and the United Nations and are committed to its success. We are pleased to expand our work with KOC.”
