Changes brought in to retail financial services, known as the Retail Distribution Review, mean that advisers who do not achieve an increased minimum qualification level are no longer able to provide advice to their clients legally. The changes have also included a distinction between different types of financial advice – independent and restricted.

Principal & Prosper is hoping to capitalise on these developments. As the firm is able to offer fully independent advice to its clients, and has a well-qualified team of financial advisers and support staff, they are able to continue to provide advice where others are not.

Nigel Cannon, who is already a Chartered Financial Planner with the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), recently joined the firm from Standard Life Private Client Management. As he says, Nigel is looking forward to working with the rest of the team at Principal & Prosper: “After a long and successful time with Standard Life, joining Principal & Prosper has been an important step for me. I believe that joining an independent firm will enable me to give people the best quality of advice possible.”

Ryan Brown, the other recent addition to the Principal & Prosper team, adds: “I joined Principal & Prosper in October last year. As we approached the changes at the end of 2012, I wanted to be sure that I would be able to give people fully independent advice and did not wish to be constrained by the limits of a restricted approach.”

Ryan is already highly qualified and expects to join fellow adviser, Nigel and Principal & Prosper’s Director, Stewart Siegel, as a Chartered Financial Planner as early as next month.

Stewart, who is also co-owner of Principal & Prosper, has recently joined the small number of individuals who have achieved Fellowship with the Personal Finance Society. He is positive about the changes they are driving forward at the firm. He says: “We were delighted to welcome Ryan to Principal & Prosper last year. After achieving Chartered Financial Planner status with the CII for the firm earlier this year, it was only natural to continue to build on our team with another highly qualified and extremely capable financial planner. With Nigel on board, I believe we have an excellent team in place to make the most of the new landscape of financial advice in 2013 and beyond.”

With the new team in place, Principal & Prosper will be looking forward to growing their business significantly over the coming year and beyond. Chris Purves, managing director and co-owner, comments: “We are already advising our clients on investments in excess of £145 million. I am confident that the new additions we have made to our team will help build on this success and allow us to reach out to more people who need the level and quality of advice only possible from a well-qualified independent adviser.”

Principal & Prosper’s commitment to its existing and prospective clients is evident from the strategy which the firm has adopted in the new regulatory environment, and it is looking forward to going from strength to strength over the coming years.
