Leading Scottish law firm Blackadders has further strengthened its private client team with the appointment of a new partner.

Lynn Melville, who is an accomplished lawyer in the private client field, will be based in the Dundee and Perth offices. She was formerly a partner at BTO Solicitors.

A specialist in tax planning, wills and estates, powers of attorneys and trusts, Lynn has over 20 years’ experience in providing tailored advice to high net-worth individuals and families on succession planning and legal and inheritance issues.

She is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) which is the worldwide professional association for practitioners.

KPMG has announced the appointment of Vishal Chopra as partner and its new head of tax in Scotland, from Grant Thornton, where he held the equivalent role. Chopra, a corporate tax specialist, will lead a team of 90 tax professionals operating across the firm’s offices in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow. With a background of working with private businesses, Chopra’s appointment follows Philippa Sanderson’s promotion to Associate Partner in July, and underlines KPMG’s investment in specialist tax expertise to service clients that are the backbone of the Scottish economy.

Janice Smith, formerly of Stantec, is the new head of Scotland branches for leading built environment consultancy Curtins. With 20 years’ experience as a qualified civil and structural engineer,she joins as its new technical director. Curtins are most well known for their civil and structural engineering services, but also offer transport planning, environmental, infrastructure, conservation and principal designer specialisms.
