Presenters George Anderson, Carole Baxter, Brian Cunningham, Kirsty Wilson and Chris Beardshaw will be returning to help Scots tend to their gardens, window boxes and indoor jungles this week as Beechgrove returns to BBC Scotland on Thursday April 1.

The popular programme helped to keep the public busy and their hands dirty when it returned to our screens in spring last year as lockdown was setting in and people of Britain were reckoning with life lived mostly indoors.

Presenters’ own gardens and allotments starred in last year’s series and let viewers get a glimpse into how the gardening gurus would keep their own gardens growing and happy in the warmer months.

Carole Baxter says “It will be a delight to be back in the Beechgrove garden and we will be seeing how the garden team managed to reclaim the garden from the clutches of Mother Nature as the garden was ‘furloughed’ in 2020.”

Beechgrove will be back to provide budding and experienced gardeners alike with tips and tricks for keeping their growing appreciation for the outdoors alive as lockdown continues, with the show set to engage with a whole new generation of gardeners who picked up a spade and took a shine to gardening during the pandemic.

A show celebrating Scottish horticulture, Beechgrove is will be highlighting some of the young gardeners who struck a cord with viewers last year. Sophie McKilligan, whose reports from her Aberdeen allotment have delighted viewers over the years, will be featured on the programme following her appointment to the Culzean Castle gardening team.

Calum Clunie from Leven, will join the programme as a regular after contributing reports from his Fife garden in lockdown last year. “I’ve watched Beechgrove for as long as I can remember, and I can’t believe me and my wee allotment are now a part of the team,” he said.

The show returns to BBC Scotland on April 1 at 8pm.
