Your Review: Viennese Gala Concert, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Usher Hall

Margaret Boreland, 65, housewife, Craiglockhart: "My husband and I came along because our son was playing in the orchestra. For me the highlights on the programme were the vocal items that featured Heidi Meier. She is the kind of singer we would welcome back to Edinburgh any time. Not only is she vocally impressive, but also she sings with real character."

William Boreland, 67, retired industrial chemist, Craiglockhart: "At the start of Wiener Blut, I especially enjoyed the playing of the string quartet. The inner parts came through well. It bothered me a little in the introduction to Vilja that the balance of orchestra and singer did not seem to have been worked out satisfactorily. She went on to acquit herself with distinction. It amused me that the audience took a few bars to spot the repeat in Strauss's Perpetuum Mobile."

Tom and Eva Hutton, 73, retired, Corstorphine: "It was a very jolly occasion. We need a light-hearted, cheerful programme like that to keep our spirits up at this time of year. Every now and then the reduced size of the orchestra tended to make itself felt. Some passages of the music call for a bigger body of sound than was available from the strings. We specially liked soprano Heidi Meier."
