Welcome to my world: Jean Johansson

FORMER CBBC and Disney Channel presenter Jean Johansson is STV's new weather girl.

Born in Port Glasgow, the model and presenter spent a few years working in London while her Finnish footballer husband Jonatan Johansson played in the Premiership for Charlton Athletic. Jonatan first came to prominence playing for Glasgow Rangers, and until recently played with Hibs.

In addition to presenting the weather, Jean indulges her passion for acting. Last year she attended a Shakespeare course at the prestigious London drama school Rada, where her classmates included Emma Watson (Hermione Grainger in the Harry Potter films) and Jodi Prenger (of Oliver! fame).

Describe your perfect weekend.

Friday-night cocktails with the girls. Saturday at the football, watching Jonatan. Then a Sunday roast dinner at my mother's.

What would you do if you ruled the world?

Spread the wealth of the world more equally.

What one thing would improve your life?

More confidence in my own ability.

Who did you last receive a text from and what did it say?

It was from my auntie, confirming details for meeting at the weekend.

What's your guiltiest pleasure?

Shoes – expensive ones.

When did you last feel sorry for yourself?

The other day, when I was stuck in torrential rain in Glasgow city centre without an umbrella – not great for a weather girl.

What do you wish you'd never done?

I once cropped my hair ridiculously short – I still can't bear looking at pictures from that time.

Would your mother be proud of you?

Absolutely. Always.

Who would you like to say sorry to?

To my girlfriend Kate, for messing up some weekend arrangements. And to Jonatan, for dragging him to see the Lady Boys of Bangkok – he spent the whole time in mortal embarrassment looking at the floor.

On what purchase, apart from a car or property, have you spent most?

Surprisingly not shoes. I spent 4,000 buying an electric guitar as a special present for Jonatan – I had to save and save for that.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?

Being escorted out of a really nice jazz bar in Chelsea for talking too loudly.

What is your earliest memory?

Walking to nursery with my mum and sister in Port Glasgow.

What song is the theme tune to your life?

'I Am What I Am', by Shirley Bassey – I know every line in that song.

Who would play you in the movie of your life?

Halle Berry.

What worries you in the wee small hours?

Family and friends.

When were you last naked in front of another person?

At a fashion shoot the other day.

Who was your favourite teacher and why?

The fabulous double act of Mrs Morning and Mrs Tidd, who helped me get Higher French.

Who is your fantasy date?

Paisley-born actor Gerard Butler.

What is your most treasured possession?

A pair of Kylie Minogue's boots. They were designed by Vivienne Westwood and are a size three and a half, so I couldn't wear them. But I love them.

What do you think of celebrity?

Because of what I do and what Jonatan does, we know a few well-known people. It would be wrong to say it's not fun, but it is often all taken a bit too seriously.

If you didn't have your current career, what would you do?

Hide Ad

I'm lucky enough to have a career that involves presenting, modelling and acting, so that's more than enough to be thinking about.

What do you remember better, your first car or your first kiss?

Hide Ad

My first car was a Mini, which was a present from my husband. It was parked outside my mum's house on Christmas Day, tied up in a huge bow.

What has been your greatest achievement?

Passing my driving test after failing it three times. And professionally, joining the STV news team.

What's next?

Part-time study, more weather-training with the Met Office, some modelling work, hopefully writing a column, and having as much fun as I can.
