Vanity Fare: Keep those winter aches at bay with a not-so-loony dook

1 Soft soaping Just Grapefruit Bath Foam ***** 12.50 for 300ml, Arran Aromatics (www.arranaromatics.com).

Its name perfectly describes this refreshing bubble bath. With ingredients of grapefruit oil and vitamin E, not only does it smell great but it left the tester's skin feeling smooth and soft afterwards. Lots of bubbles too.

2 Hollywood heaven I Colonial Relaxing Bath Cream with bamboo extract, *** 11, at independent chemists and pharmacists and online (www.hqhair.com). This tester is never convinced by a bath cream with a cork stopper as things can get sloppy. However, this thick and luxurious cream, which froths to proper Hollywood-sized bubbles, made up for the mess. Not sure about the bamboo extract though – it was undetectable and the scent was more clinical than oriental.

3 Bubble trouble Supreme Fine Silk Beauty Bath ** 3.88, Dove, at chemists nationwide. Plenty of bubbles but the heavy, musky scent was a little offputting. And, though Dove claims it leaves your skin feeling silky soft, there was no discernible difference from this tester's usual bath foam.

4 Smoothie Red Clover Moisture Bath **** 15, Wild Organics (www.wildorganicsbeauty.com). This smells like absolute heaven, and has a gentle moisturising effect on the skin without a trace of oiliness. What a marvellous treat.

5 Foam sweet foam Tranquil Bubble Bath ** 12, Jurlique (www.jurlique.co.uk). Foams nicely when added to the water and the bubbles last for a long time. It leaves skin feeling soft, and although the scent of lavender is relaxing, it is very strong and slightly synthetic.

6 Luxury lather Infusion d'Iris **** 25 for 250ml, Prada (020 7494 6220). Its light, fruity smell is pleasant in an understated way, making it suitable for men or women. A bit luxurious for a daily bath, this would make a great weekly treat or a gift for someone who loves bubbles.
