UK premiere of Internet Cat Video Festival held

As the first offline, social celebration of online cat videos, the event has been a massive hit with audiences of all ages and was premiered in Scotland on Saturday.

The Gallery of Modern Art, played host to the free event, showcasing quirky online footage of cats, with archive footage dating back to 1901.

The festival featured a programme specially curated by Will Braden, creator of the Henri Le Chat Noir videos and recipient of the first Golden Kitty Award.

Braden asks for people to send out their favourite cat videos from the internet and he creates a film programme from the clips.

Katie Bruce, producer curator for the Gallery of Modern Art said: “The wonderful thing is that it brings people together to do something offline that they wouldn’t normally do in the privacy of their own home and sharing the experience.

“It has been a success so far. We’ve had lots of good feedback and heard lots of laughter in the galleries this afternoon. I think people have genuinely seemed to have enjoyed it all.”

Known as brainchild of the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis , the Cat Video festival was part of the Glasgow Film Festival, which now attracts an audience of more than 40,000 and deploys venues across the city.
