Friday night is DJ night at Ocho Rios Village Jerk Centre (Da Costa Drive), where you can taste authentic, mega spicy Jamaican jerk chicken, fish, conch and curried goat.

Saturday, 9:30am

Swim with rays at Stingray City (James Bond Beach, Oracabessa, US $20, www.stingraycityjamaica.com).

11am

Ride a horse or camel, feed ostriches or try a Segway at Prospect Outback Adventures (from US$38.50, www.prospectoutbackadventures.com).

1pm

Lunch at Mom’s (Evelyn Street; tel: 876 974 281). Locals praise the oxtail, rice and peas, and brown stew pork.

2:30pm

Chill at the Jamaica Inn’s beach, snorkelling, canoeing or just lazing.

7pm

Saturday night is lobster night at Jamaica Inn, so treat yourselves to a seafood dinner (from around US$50).

Sunday, 10am

Go underground at Green Grotto Caves (US$20, Discovery Bay, www.greengrottocavesja.com), a labyrinth leading to a subterranean lake.

Midday

Visit Dunn’s River Falls (US$20, www.dunnsriverfallsja.com) to scramble up a series of fastflowing cascades.

1:30pm

Visit JuiciBeef Patties (61 Main Street). At £1, this cousin of the bridie is the cheapest lunch on the island.

2:30pm

Visit Harmony Hall (www.harmonyhall.com) for a look at paintings by island artists.

8pm

Dine at Evita’s (Eden Bower Rd, Ocho Rios, www.evitasjamaica.com) for Italian-Jamaican fusion dishes such as lasagne rastafari.

Monday, 11am

Check out for your transfer to Montego Bay and flight home.
