Trainspotting sequel plan confirmed by Danny Boyle

OLYMPIC opening ceremony director and Oscar-winner Danny Boyle has confirmed plans to direct an adaptation of Porno, Irvine Welsh’s sequel to Trainspotting.

Boyle, who won the Best Director Oscar for Slumdog Millionaire, told The Playlist that a loose adaptation featuring the original Trainspotting cast was back on the cards.

Boyle said: “There’s always been this long term plan for ‘Trainspotting 2,’ if John (Hodge, Boyle’s screenwriting partner) can produce a decent enough script, I don’t think there will be any barriers to Ewan or any of the cast coming back.

“I think they’ll wanna know that the parts are good so they don’t feel like they are letting anyone down.

Boyle added: “The reason for doing it again is that people cherish the original, people remember it or have caught up with it if they never saw because they were younger. So you want to make sure you don’t disappoint people.”

Trainspotting, named one of the top ten British films of all time by the British Film Institute, was released in 1996. It helped to launch the careers of Ewan McGregor, Robert Carlyle and Kelly Macdonald.

Boyle has stated his desire to bring Porno to cinemas in 2016, for the 20th anniversary of Trainspotting’s release.
