Tommy Sheridan stars in Scots band’s music video

FORMER Scottish Socialist MSP Tommy Sheridan has made his music video debut, playing the part of a school teacher in a promo for a Motherwell-based indie band.

Sheridan, 50, makes a cameo appearance in the promo for ‘Pretty Boys’, the new single from indie rockers The Banter Thiefs.

He is seen writing on a whiteboard at the head of a class - when the camera is reversed, it is revealed that various phrases related to September’s referendum have been written on the board, such as the referendum date and the Twitter hashtag ‘#Yes’.

Sheridan took the unpaid part in the short film after the band contacted him online.

Bass player Derek Watson, 24, said: “We started following Tommy on Twitter and when he followed us back we decided to make contact.

“We had a chat and he was happy to get involved. He was great. “

Tommy said his part of the shoot - a flashback to the lads’ school days - only took about an hour, and he went along with wife Gail and daughter Gabrielle.

He said: “The lads contacted me and I was happy to help out.

“I’m always in favour of helping out young people and it was just a case of showing up and doing my part.

“They’re a great bunch of lads and I think they’ll do well, although my music tastes are more Rod Stewart and Carly Simon, that era.”

The group also persuaded former head of the Scottish Football League David Longmuir and Scots YouTube sensation Tandoori Tony to take walk-on parts in the video.

The song is available for digital download later this week.
