THE Blanks are a four-man a capella group featured on US sitcom Scrubs. And tonight, a talent agent is in the house – please her and stardom beckons. The boys know the beats to hit to ensure a good show – the best songs EVER, a character arc, a moment of drama and so on.

Star rating: * * *

The “impress someone” sketch takes up probably half the show and it’s not hugely funny. The rest of the hour sees The Blanks give us their versions of such pop standards as Who Are You? and Maniac. There are theme songs from obscure US TV shows, they do Scrubs, of course, and The Full Monty musical gets the title number it always needed. The highlight is a rendering of the Six Million Dollar Man opening sequence. The clever arrangements are slickly performed by the charming cast. More singing and less filler – one weak gag returned twice, several minutes are wasted on a dull “personal revelation” and there’s a shameless sequence advertising The Blanks’ CD – would’ve made this show pure gold. But, the audience loved it anyway, so add an extra star if you’re a Scrubs fan.
