Theatre: The Cheviot, The Stag and The Black, Black Oil

This new production of John McGrath’s celebrated 1973 play has already won rave reviews and calls for it to undertake a national tour. Telling the story of the Scottish Highlands and the drastic economic forces that prompted mass social upheaval, the play challenges conventions and asks audiences to rethink their previously held beliefs. Directed by Joe Douglas, the Dundee Rep Ensemble has produced the first professional production of the piece on the Scottish stage in more than twenty years.

Music: Sun Araw

Texan experimental musician Cameron Stallones - aka Sun Araw - is known for taking a diverse approach to his live shows. Expect sampled loops, echoed vocals, bass, and much more besides to create a style that’s been described as neo-dub. With 10 albums and a variety of EPs and singles to choose from, his set is likely to be a broad range of tracks from his singular career.

Exhibition: Star Wars in Glasgow

The Variety Bar in Sauchiehall Street will be transformed this month into the Variety Cantina to mark the forthcoming release of The Force Awakens. This free exhibition promises to reveal what Star Wars would be like if it was set in Scotland’s biggest city. There will be plenty of memorabilia on display, special theme cocktails and original artwork by comic book artist Neil Slorance and Director of Glasgow Comic Con Sha Nazir.

Theatre: Britain’s Got Bhangra

Rifco Arts presents a new musical which traces the evolution of British bhangra music, via the shifting fortunes of 1980s star Twinkle. Written and directed by Pravesh Kumar, you can expect some high-end Punjabi folk music mixed with Western styles and pop hooks. A colourful night out is guaranteed.

Comedy: Gorgie City Farm Benefit
