Theatre review: A Sky Burial, theSpace on North Bridge (Venue 36), Edinburgh

A SERIOUSLY ill woman sits, unconscious, on a drip, while her daughter takes the opportunity to use the hospital as an unlikely setting for a date with a man who likes quoting physics.

A Sky Burial

theSpace on North Bridge (Venue 36)

Star rating: *

Some drug dealers/organ harvesters dressed as Santa Claus arrive, violence ensues and implausibility prevails in what is apparently an “insight into the future of our uncertain, postmodern society”.

It’s also supposed to be a dark comedy, but the characters’ behaviour is so incongruous it’s impossible to understand, let alone find funny. Distasteful with no obvious purpose, the halting dialogue ends up feeling preferable to pantomime violence.
