Theatre preview: THe Producers, Churchill Theatre

LIGHTS! Music! Action! It’s the culmination of three weeks rehearsals for the students of Edinburgh drama school MGA this week as they showcase their talents in Mel Brooks’ and Thomas Meehan’s The Producers.

Based on Brooks’ 1968 movie of the same name, The Producers tells the tale of two Broadway impresarios. After putting together another flop show, down-on-his-luck Max Bialystock teams up with timid accountant Leo Bloom in a get-rich-quick scheme to put on the world’s worst show.

The original Broadway production opened in New York in 2001, with Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick in the lead roles and won a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards.
