Yer Granny, an adaptation of the Argentinian hit La Nona, has been adapted by playwright Douglas Maxwell, and revolves around a Scots-Italian family living above a run-down fish and chip shop.

The first members of the cast have been announced just days after Yer Granny was confirmed as the first major new comedy to be commissioned by NTS, which will be staging its 10th season of shows in 2015.

The show, billed as bold and riotous, revolves around efforts to reopen the Minerva Fish Bar in time for the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations in 1977, and the family’s problems with their “diabolical 100-year-old granny who’s literally eating her family out of house and home.”

Director Graham McLaren said: “If you imagine the satire of Dario Fo with the humour of Rab C Nesbitt, you will get a feel for Yer Granny.”

The show will tour Greenock, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness and Dundee, as well as visit Belfast, between May and July next year.
