Review: The Weigh In, theSpace on North Bridge (Venue 36)

A PLAY with its heart in the right place and much else that’s all over the shop, this piece from the A&E theatre company is often baffling.

* *

Or rather, the premise is quite simple – that a bunch of people with various eating disorders are inducted into a residential group therapy course – but the overlong and action-light plot is grating and the internal logic is ropey: why, for example, would it be possible to institutionalise someone who’s a little overweight against their will? The addition of an element of mystery towards the end also feels tacked-on rather than capably threaded into the narrative, sadly.

Until 25 August. Today, 6:40pm.
