Review: Dorothy Squires: Mrs Roger Moore, Gilded Balloon Teviot

I DIDN’T know much about the post-war singing star Dorothy Squires before seeing this show – and by the end of this hour I didn’t much care.**

Al Pillay has been playing the former Mrs Roger Moore in drag for many years and clearly does care, tracing her rise, fall, comeback and ultimate litigious demise through the media of songs and sequins. But, whether by accident or design, she becomes a grotesque dragon in a wobbly performance that relies a little too heavily on the super-slick support of four ultra-camp backing singers/actors/dancers for its forward momentum.

Until 27 August. Today 12:45pm.
