Review: 99.9 Degrees, C eca (Venue 50)

A SHOW apparently without a clear idea of what it wants to say, but with a very precise knowledge of how it wants to say it, this piece from Jackinabox Productions mixes dance and theatre in equal measure. Five people, three male and two female, are being held hostage in an office building by unseen terrorists who are demanding the release of prisoners from Guantanamo Bay.

* *

While they await their uncertain fate, they reveal their stories to one another – or rather, their lone character cliché: the abused wife; the loyal husband who dances via telephone with his wife; the hammiest heroin addict on the Fringe. The interpretive dance sequences that bookend each character’s revelation are skilful and easy on the eye, but the theatre is sadly somewhat dull.

Until 27 August. Today 5:30pm.
