Tom Stoppard’s The Real Inspector Hound has proved a popular comedy murder mystery since first being staged in 1968.

A short, one-act play, it revolves around two theatre critics, Moon and Birdboot as they watch the set up of a country house whodunnit. Before they know it, they inadvertently become caught up in the action...

At the Bedlam Theatre tonight and tomorrow, there’s a chance to catch Edinburgh University Theatre Company’s production of the piece.

With a title that references the ending of the longest running play on the West End, The Mousetrap, The Real Inspector Hound follows the age old conceit of a play within a play.

The Real Inspector Hound, much like Stoppard’s earlier play Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead, examines the ideas of fate and free will in this parody of the melodramatic parlour murder mystery.

Join nine of EUTC’s finest, including Ben Horner and Finlay McAfee, and critics Moon and Birdboot for a front seat in what promises to be a show they were not quite expecting.

The Real Inspector Hound, Bedlam Theatre, Bristo Square, tonight and tomorrow, 7.30pm, £5, available on the door
