Preview: The Rat Pack Vegas Spectacular, Playhouse

Just like the original Rat Pack, which saw its line-up change over the years, the Vegas Spectacular, too, has had its fair share of performers.

This time round, breathing life into the three names that remain synonymous with the famous Hollywood entertainers are the show’s founder Wayne Kennedy as Dean Martin; Roman Marek, who joined the show in 2006 and is now their principle Frank Sinatra; and James Jnr as Sammy Davis.

All three are excited to be back in the Capital, as boss Kennedy explains. “Edinburgh’s Playhouse certainly has a special buzz. It is to us what Wimbledon is to tennis.

“When the curtain rises and 3000 people are sitting there right in your face, it is amazing.

“Last year we sold every seat – the box office said it was a record for a variety show – and tomorrow we are on course to do the same with only 200 seats left. Good news is that most of these are the £17 seats, which are also free for accompanied children. So, still time for families to bag a bargain.”

The production insists a free-for-kids section is designated for most of its shows, and also give audiences a chance to meet the performers at the end of the night.

“It’s great to see the smiles on the faces at the meet and greet afterwards,” says Kennedy. “The support we get in Scotland is truly amazing and it’s an honour for us to make the long journey north. It’s always worth while.”

Tomorrow, the self-proclaimed “purveyors of cool” are set to whisk their audience back to the musical Sixties heyday of Las Vegas, with classic songs such as Come Fly With Me, Mr Bojangles, Lady Is A Tramp, That’s Amore, Mack The Knife and New York, New York.

Get ready to evoke those memories of Sinatra, Martin and Davis.
