Festival review: US Beef; Pleasance Dome (Venue 23)

As WE struggle to digest the irony of a certain hamburger mega-brand being big sponsors of the Olympic games, there is space for a play attacking the questionable ethics of multinational meat traders.

Albeit one better than this undercooked effort by Missing String Theatre Company.

Buck Matthews is a happy-go-lucky Iowan with the world at his feet, but when he gets his girl pregnant he has to take a job as a door-to-door meat salesman, feeding the callous lies of corrupt boardroom suits to Joe Public by the pound. It’s light-heartedly played with some good musical moments, but the plot goes nowhere, and the American accents are dodgy.
