Festival review: Threads; The Space on the Mile (Venue 39B)

There is a lot of passionate emoting going on in this earnest production from Newcastle University Theatre Society, about a drug addict trying to work out what happened the night before.

The lead performance is believably twitchy, but the play’s structure is overly complicated, with awkward flashbacks, unconvincing amnesia and a character who personifies something that’s not at all clear – his conscience? His dark side? Satan? The dialogue doesn’t ring true and there’s some soap opera style posturing in angry exchanges.
