Encore Ahoy for Anything Goes

LOCAL amateur musicals company Encore set sail at Musselburgh’s Brunton Theatre next week, when they hop on board the SS America in Cole Porter’s Anything Goes.

Premiered in 1934, Anything Goes charts the madcap antics aboard an ocean liner bound from New York to London.

Celebrities, gangsters and stowaways clash in this lively, funny musical, which is packed full of Cole Porter classics such as It’s Delovely, I Get A Kick Out of You, Let’s Misbehave, Blow, Gabriel, Blow and, of course, the title song, Anything Goes.

The story, for those unfamiliar with the piece is simple... Billy Crocker is a stowaway in love with heiress Hope Harcourt, who is engaged to Lord Evelyn Oakleigh.

Nightclub singer Reno Sweeney and Public Enemy No 13 Moonface Martin decide to aid Billy in his quest to win Hope, but will he succeed?
