Drawing on a dazzling range of Scottish-based musical and writing talent, this latest project from Roadkill director Cora Bissett offers a multimedia experience – live performance, an album and a film – built around a series of stories happening across Scotland between midnight and 4am. The writers include David Greig and Alan Bissett, and there’s music from Swimmer One, Ricky Ross and many others, in a show that hopes to offer “a snapshot of the entire nation, at its most vulnerable and revealing.”

GLASTONBURY: THE MOVIE IN FLASHBACK

SHOWCASE, PAISLEY, TOMORROW

First released in 1995, this epic, multi-format documentary – shot over ten days in the run-up to the 1993 edition of Michael Eavis’s legendary music festival – has been digitally remastered and re-edited to include a wealth of unseen material, making this the definitive account of Glastonbury on the big screen. Owing something of a debt to Woodstock and the classic DA Pennebaker music docs of the 1960s and 1970s, the verité approach succeeds in capturing the festival at its best: when people could still sneak over the walls and the old hippy spirit hadn’t yet been eradicated.

EXPANDING HORIZONS: GIOVANNI BATTISTA LUSIERI AND THE PANORAMIC LANDSCAPE

Giovanni Battista Lusieri is not a familiar name, but he was one of the most gifted landscape painters of the late 18th century. He painted panoramic landscapes in watercolour. He travelled to Greece with Lord Elgin, but most of the work he did there on which his reputation would have depended was lost at sea, and he was forgotten. This exhibition brings together the best of his surviving work and reveals for the first time in 200 years the richness of his extraordinary talent.

INCHCOLM NEW MUSIC ENSEMBLE

ST GILES CATHEDRAL, EDINBURGH, 30 JUNE

Some months ago the call went out from Steve King, head of music at Heriot Watt University, for budding Scottish composers to submit brand new works based on Scottish plainchant contained in the Inchcolm Antiphoner, which was compiled over a millennium ago by the monks of the island monastery. On Saturday, the results can be heard in a concert by the University’s own Inchcolm New Music Ensemble.

FRANKIE VALLI & THE FOUR SEASONS

CLYDE AUDITORIUM, GLASGOW, 3 JULY

Their music has been resurrected in recent years thanks to jukebox musical Jersey Boys but here is an opportunity to catch the Four Seasons’ 21st-century incarnation in concert. Who knows if Valli or any of his current Seasons can hit the high notes any more, but let’s hope the veteran vocal harmony group are covered in the falsetto department, all the better to render their luminous catalogue of doo-wop-styled delights such as Walk Like A Man and Big Girls Don’t Cry and later disco-influenced gems The Night and Silver Star.
