Tower of Lethendy, 14 miles north of Perth, dates from 1570 is set in around 40 acres of land complete with the Grampian Mountains as a backdrop. It comes with its own 18-hole golf course, a heated outdoor swimming pool with a wooden cabin for use as a changing room and a tennis court.

The red sandstone baronial-style home features a reception hall, a library with custom fitted floor-to-ceiling oak shelving and open fireplaces, while a magnificent grand staircase leads up to eight bedrooms including the master suite with its own sitting room, shower room, bathroom and large dressing room.

The couple and their guests can also enjoy relaxing in the sauna and massage room.

The house is surrounded by formal gardens and sweeping lawns, a walled garden with a mature orchard and The Dell – a woodland garden with a host of wild flowers, rhododendrons and monkey puzzle trees and a burn leading to a sunken pond.

The property, currently owned by a Canadian family and used as a wedding venue and bespoke holiday lets, is described by Savills estate agents as “one of the premier residential estates in Scotland”.

The sale includes two lodges, a garden cottage, a ghillie’s cottage and an estate workshop and greenhouse.

The couple’s privacy will be ensured by the estate being bounded by high beech hedges and screened by hardwood trees.

A source, speaking to a magazine, said that Swift is all about “romance” and the idea of buying the Scottish castle is that she is looking forward to embracing her boyfriend’s traditions.

“Taylor is all about romance. She is looking forward to snuggling up by a roaring fire with Calvin and embracing Scottish traditions,” the source said.

Swift, whose property portfolio includes a £12.8m penthouse in New York and homes in Beverley Hills and Nashville has been known to buy properties near to the men she is dating.

Last year she told Vanity Fair: “People say that about me, that I apparently buy homes near every boy I like. If I like you I will apparently buy up the real estate market just to freak you out so you leave me.”

Such purchases have included a £3.1m house in Hyannis Point, close to the Kennedy family compound in Cape Cod she bought when she was dating Conor Kennedy, Robert F Kennedy’s grandson, in 2012. She later sold it for a million-dollar profit.

She also bought a £1m property in Nashville, Tennessee

near the home of her former boyfriend the actor Jake Gyllenhaal.

Harris, who has relocated to the US, bought a £10m compound complete with ten bedrooms and 11 bathrooms in Beverly Hills last September.

A Savills spokeswoman said they did not want to comment.
