Stars line up as BBC Proms extravaganza is unveiled

DOCTOR Who, Placido Domingo, Bryn Terfel and Jamie Cullum are leading the way at this year's BBC Proms.

For the first time, the season will feature a double helping of Proms Last Nights, with a day-long tribute to Proms founder-conductor Henry Wood featuring his own Last Night programme from a century ago.

Katie Derham will be one of the people fronting the annual classical music extravaganza. The news reader's departure from ITN for the BBC in a "non-news role" has been confirmed.

BBC3 will join the Proms for the first time to host the return of the Doctor Who Prom, which this year will feature the new Doctor, Matt Smith.

Singer and Radio 2 presenter Jamie Cullum will make his Proms debut, as will the Penguin Cafe, who are teaming up with folk artist Kathryn Tickell.

Placido Domingo, who was forced to pull out of performances at the Royal Opera House earlier this year to undergo surgery, will be back in Britain this summer for the Proms. He and Bryn Terfel will appear on successive nights.
