THE COURT OF EQUITY: RANTIN’ ROVIN’ ROBIN

A ROMANTIC. A friend of the gentry. A man of the people. A Mason, a Jacobite, the torch of independence and a government employee.

Robert Burns has been ascribed many contradictory epitaphs.

Next Wednesday, the work of Scotland’s national bard will be celebrated at Musselburgh’s Brunton Theatre with a visit from The Court Of Equity, a group made up of members of one of Scotland’s leading folk/rock bands, The Picts.

The Court, each of whom has a love of traditional music and the works of Burns, will take the audience on a musical journey of the poet’s life using descriptions, tales and original musical arrangements of Burns’ songs and music.

Performing his best loved works, as well as lesser known ones, will be Douglas McQueen Hunter, Jeremy Stirling, Grant McConnell, Dave Murray and Victoria Graham.

And for those who can’t let a Burns’ Night pass without addressing the haggis, the Brunton will host a Burns Supper in the venue’s Bistro restaurant before the show.

Killer elite

JASON STATHAM is back and he’s in good company - he has Robert De Niro and Clive Owen in tow.

There’s nothing better than settling down with a good old-fashioned shoot-em-up, all action thriller on a cold winter night. That’s exactly what you get from Killer Elite, two hours of high-octane action as the story bounces from one continent to the next.

Based on a true story, Killer Elite races across the globe from Australia to Paris, London to the Middle East. Statham is an ex-special ops agent lured out of retirement to rescue his mentor (De Niro). To make the rescue, he must complete a near impossible mission; killing three tough-as-nails assassins led by Clive Owen.

Well worth a look if you like well throught-out thrillers with a twist and an arguably subversive sub-text.

Killer Elite (15) is released on DVD (£19.99) and Blu-ray (£24.99) this week
