A SCOTTISH actress who stars in what is set to be one of the most controversial films of the year has admitted she is worried about her parents’ reaction to her risque scenes.

Aberdeen-born Sophie Kennedy Clark, who has been unveiled as one of British Vogue’s top three young talents to watch in 2014, is about to hit the silver screen in a film about sex addiction, starring alongside Hollywood stars including Charlotte Gainsbourg, Shia LaBeouf, and Uma Thurman.

The 20-year-old daughter of Gaelic singer and actress Fiona Kennedy will star in Danish director Lars von Trier’s film Nymphomaniac, for which sensuous pre-publicity posters featuring the stars with “orgasmic” expressions have already created a stir after they began appearing in public areas.

But the actress, whose father Francis Clark comes from a well-known Aberdeen fishing family, said she is more concerned about what her parents will say when they see the movie than the views of cinema-goers across the globe.

She said yesterday: “During the photo shoot, I thought, ‘My poor parents, my poor parents’.

“I don’t know if you’ve ever said the word ‘orgasm’ to your folks, but I certainly have not.

“I didn’t really think they had come across the poster but one of my dad’s friends came across it and sent it to him.

“I got a text saying, ‘You look like you’re being crucified.’

“There was a moment where I was like, ‘I wonder what he’s talking about?’

“Then I was like, ‘S***, they’ve seen it. I don’t think Santa is going to be coming this year.

“I feel like my whole world is crumbling, but they’re kind of amazing photographs.

“It’s that kind of ugly-pretty. I’m among enough good actors for it to feel all right.”

Miss Kennedy Clark, who as a child learned to play the clarsach, began a successful acting career 18 months ago with her first taste of Hollywood in the vampire movie Dark Shadows with Johnny Depp.

Before that, she modelled for brands including Burberry and spent a year in New York taking acting classes.

She has also starred alongside Dame Judi Deuch as the young Philomena in the Oscar-nominated film of the same name about an Irish teenager forced to give away her baby.

But as the hype mounts over the upcoming launch of Nymphomaniac, in which Miss Kennedy Clark plays a character known simply as “B”, she has admitted she “never actually managed to really tell” her parents about the true nature of the movie.

When her parents’ curiosity was raised by the appearance of the posters, they questioned her further: “They were like, ‘You’re doing what?’”

Describing the photoshoot for the film posters, she said: “I was thinking, God, if my friends could see me now. I am standing topless in front of a Danish photographer pretending to have an orgasm.

“But with Lars, you’re kind of in safe hands. You’re in very arty hands.”
