Shopping: Make music at any age

THE Grammy awards proved to be another night of glittering success for the British music industry, with Adele, Mumford and Sons and Sir Paul McCartney among those honoured.

And with the Brit award set to be held on February 20, there’s never been a better time to inspire the next generation of musical talent, whatever their age.

The classic starter instrument for any youngster is still the recorder, and just in case that’s not cool enough to get their musical talents going Edinburgh’s Rae Macintosh store has paired it up with an easy-to-learn songbook featuring tunes from the smash-hit film High School Musical. If you’re looking for something a little more rock and roll, why not try out a guitar, with everything from basic acoustic models to classic electric guitars available – all with the added decor of the Union Jack. And If they do go electric it needn’t cost the earth, with small amplifiers available for around £50.

Those looking for a more classical instrument can pick up a range of sheet music for piano or keyboard, or if you just want something simple to play why not try your hand at the harmonica.

And even if you’re not musically inclined but just want to get in the spirit why not download a music sharing app such as Spotify, or pick up some Union jack-themed clothes and decorations available in city.
