Scottish fact of the day: Edradour, Scotland’s smallest whisky distillery

AMONG Scotland’s numerous whisky distilleries - there over 90 at present - the Edradour distillery in Pitlochry is notable for being the nation’s smallest.

It produces only 12 casks a week - a large distillery will produce in a week what Edradour would make in a year (90,000 litres, to be exact) - and is manned by just three staff.

The Highland distillery opened in 1825, and the equipment has remained more or less unchanged in the years since.

Despite its modest size and limited quantities, the whisky is distributed across the UK, and is exported as far as Japan, New Zealand, South Africa and Taiwan, as well as much of Europe and the US.
