Ready to Rock: Three-day festival on the banks of Loch Ness

REVELLERS arrived yesterday for the three–day RockNess festival, the first Scottish music festival of the summer.

The event at Clune farm in Dores, on the shores of Loch Ness, started with performances from Mumford & Sons, Noah and The Whale and Ed Sherran.

RockNess attracts an eclectic mix of bands, artists and comedians.

Today, fans are expected to be treated to performances from Deadmau5 and The View, while tomorrow’s bands include Biffy Clyro, Ash and Gun.

The first festival took place in 2006 when Fatboy Slim decanted his Brighton Beach Party to the site. RockNess is known as “the most beautiful festival in the world” and as “the only festival with its own monster”.

On Thursday, Eilidh Jones, 31, and Steven Brockett, 29, from Glasgow, got married on a hill overlooking the festival’s main stage as contractors completed the finishing touches to the stages for the event. Some 70 friends attended the service, which comes a year after they were engaged at the 2011 festival. Ms Jones, from Knightswood, said: “RockNess is in our blood. It was so romantic.”
