Frightened Rabbit hop around the UK

With the release of their fourth album Pedestrian Verse just around the corner, Frightened Rabbit are to embark on a series of in-store shows across the country. The Selkirk lads call at the following record shops next week:

Sun 3 Feb: HMV, Aberdeen – Union Street, 4pm

Mon 4 Feb: HMV, Glasgow – Buchanan Street, 6pm

Tue 5 Feb: HMV, Edinburgh – Princes Street, 6pm

Wed 6 Feb: HMV, Manchester – Market Street, 6pm

Thur 7 Feb: Fopp, Covent Garden, London – Earlham Street, 6pm

Eminem to headline new Glasgow fest

Eminem is the first headline act to be announced for Summer Sessions, a new series of concerts in Glasgow’s Bellahouston Park in August. The Detroit hip-hop legend, who is also appearing at the Reading and Leeds festivals, will perform at the DF Concerts event on Tuesday 20 August.

No further artists have been announced, but DF are planning to stage up to five concerts over a 10-day period, with as many as four acts per night.

Tickets are on sale now.

Knockengorroch line-up announced

Asian Dub Foundation, one of the pioneers of the world/dance crossover sound, are among the bands to be added to this year’s Knockengorroch World Ceilidh, which takes place in Dumfries and Galloway from 23 to 26 May. Other acts to be confirmed by the festival today are: Dizraeli and the Small Gods, Breabach, Cedric Watson & Bijou Creole, Luke Vibert, Congo Natty aka Rebel MC with Tenor Fly, Slamboree, Headmix Collective, The Correspondents, Federation of the Disco Pimp, The Old Dance School, Sheelanagig, Vibronics, Mungo’s Hi Fi Sound System, The Bevvy Sisters, Krar Collective, Freddy Frogs, Morphamish and the Mezzanine Allstars.

Fat Goth release second LP

Dundee band Fat Goth have gained a bit of a following in Scotland since their low-slung scuzz-rock first came thundering into earshot. This week the trio have released their second album Stud on Hefty Dafty records, and you can check it out on Bandcamp.

The band’s next single will be Surf’s Down, due for release on 1st April, supported by a live video. In the meantime, have a look at the video for Creepy Lounge…

Homework reveal album / tour plans

Edinburgh-based electro-pop band Homework will release their debut album 13 Towers on 25 March. The quartet already have two EPs to their name and have enjoyed support from the likes of Lauren Laverne, Vic Galloway and indeed Radar (See our 2010 profile). Lead single ‘It’s All Over’ will be see the light of day on March 4, followed by a series of live dates throughout the UK in April and May:

5 April: Inverness, Mad Hatters (Net Sounds Takeover – club night)

3 May: Aberdeen, Snafu (Dirty Hearts Club – club night)

4 May: Inverness, Brew At The Bog Festival

9 May: Edinburgh, Inspace (album launch party)

Randan Discotheque album due

The new albums keep coming… Edinburgh art-pop favourites Randan Discotheque got in touch to say their new album, titled Sonderweg, is out very soon – Monday 4th February to be exact. It’s already streaming on SoundCloud, and will be released on 12″ vinyl, CD and download via The Bonjour Branch, the label that Randan Disco frontman Craig Coulthard operates along with pals from Django Django and The Phantom Band.

Rick Redbeard album out

Speaking of The Phantom Band, their frontman Rick Anthony has released his debut album under his solo guise of Rick Redbeard. No Selfish Heart is out on Chemikal Underground this week, and you may recall we spoke to Rick about going solo and the background to the record back in November.
