Pick of the clubnights

SATURDAY night kicks off in style this week when Mood celebrates a decade of clubbing.

Expect a party to remember with competitions galore. Holiday vouchers and champers are up for grabs, while confetti showers and eye-catching party decor will add to the occasion.

DJ and club promoter Jim Etherson reminisces, “My first night DJing at Mood was amazing, the place was rammed by 11pm and everyone was buzzing. The atmosphere was electric.”

He continues, “We had some great laughs over the years. The Ministry of Sound tour sticks out in my mind. I was warming up, banging out some big tunes when the CD player suddenly stopped.

“I hadn’t time to cue another track so hit play on the back-up deck and on came YMCA. My face was beetroot. YMCA at a Ministry Of Sound night? By the time I got another track ready, I looked up to see the crowd doing all the actions and singing along. I let it play, of course.”

He adds, “Those were the halcyon days. Clubbing has changed in the past ten years. These days the clientele are knowledgable. If I’m asked for a tune and don’t have it, they expect me to download it or borrow it from their smartphone.”

Excitedly looking ahead to Saturday, Etherson says the winning formula is to “give the punters what they want while keeping ahead musically and offering value for money. Simple”.
