Photographers walk in pioneering Scottish footsteps

The photographers aim to re-create the calotype style of photography that was pioneered in the 19th century. The shoot took place yesterday at the former studio of painter David Octavius Hill and engineer Robert Adamson, Rock House on Calton Hill, Edinburgh. Hill and Adamson set up Scotland’s first photographic studio in 1843. Using the calotype process, they produced a wide range of portraits depicting well-known Scottish figures of the time. Their partnership produced around 3,000 prints before Adamson’s death in 1848.
