Pet Questions

Q We had two male rabbits but one has just died and we want to get the remaining one a female companion as this seems to be the best mix. The male is neutered, but do I also need to get the new female neutered as well?

A It’s good that you are considering getting another companion for your rabbit, as they are very social animals and need the company of their own species. If your male rabbit is old, it may be kinder to wait before getting a second rabbit. He may find the new addition stressful, and if his life expectancy is relatively short then your second rabbit could also be in need of a new companion quite soon. It may be best to wait and get two new littermates. Whichever option you decide is best, a neutered male with a neutered female is usually the best pairing.
