A Perfect Weekend: James McGregor, restaurant owner

JAMES McGregor, 36, is owner of The Royal McGregor bar and restaurant (www.royalmcgregor.co.uk) in the Royal Mile. He lives in Shandon.

1 Who would be your ideal weekend companion and why?

I’d spend my perfect weekend with my wife. With two young children and a business, we both work very hard, so it would be really nice to have a whole weekend together.

2 Where would you take them in Edinburgh?

We would go for a walk up Blackford Hill. It is a lovely walk, especially if you start at the Hermitage, which rewards you with the best view of this beautiful city.

3 Where would you go for breakfast/lunch/dinner?

I would take her for breakfast at Project Coffee in Bruntsfield. Lunch would be at Ondine for contemporary Scottish seafood at its best. Then we would have dinner at the Royal McGregor, as we rarely get the chance to dine in our own restaurant. I know the food will be good, I’ll get a decent pint of cask ale and my wife loves our Baileys lattes!

4 What one item would you not be without?

I couldn’t be without my iPhone. It’s indispensable for organising my life.

5 How would your perfect weekend finish?

By curling up on the sofa to watch a movie, ideally a comedy.
