Nina Nesbitt added to Edinburgh Hogmanay bill

ONE of the rising stars of the Scottish music scene has won a plum slot at Edinburgh’s Hogmanay party.

Teenager Nina Nesbitt has been added to a line-up which already includes highly-rated home-grown acts like Django Django, Chvrches and King Creosote.

The Edinburgh-born pop starlet, who shot to fame after winning support slots after impressing English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, will be supporting the Pet Shop Boys at the flagship concert in Princes Street Gardena.

Nesbitt, 19, who was just 16 when she began performing in venues around the city, only released her debut single last October.

Organisers of the festivities also revealed that another Edinburgh-based act, indie-punk group The 10:04’s and Manchester alt-rock outfit The 1975 would be joining Nesbitt on the bill of the four-hour gig.

Steve Cardownie, Edinburgh City Council’s festivals and events champion, said: ‘This completes a fantastic line-up for the concert in gardens. I’m particularly pleased a local singer, Nina Nesbitt, is performing – bolstering still further the contingent of fine Scottish artists on show across all five stages this year.”

Nesbitt, who was brought up in the Balerno area of Edinburgh, launched her career posting covers by the likes of Kelly Clarkson, Ellie Goulding and Taylor Swift on YouTube after using the “Ultimate Guitar” website to teach herself how to play them.

She has had a swift rise to prominence in the last year, releasing a string of EPs, landing a slot at the T in the Park festival, being asked to feature in a John Lewis advert, and performing “Flower of Scotland” before an international match at Hampden.

Tickets for both the concert in the gardens at the Ross Bandstand and the Hogmanay street party are on sale now.

The full programme for Edinburgh’s three-day Hogmanay festival will be revealed in the middle next month.
