With the five piece continuing to develop their sound, however, comparisons to the bands above are becoming more rare; the Oban and Aberdeen originated group are straying from their roots into exciting new grounds (among plenty of others, their instruments include a musical saw). They have just finished a series of gigs with The Music Tapes (featuring members of indie cult heroes Neutral Milk Hotel) and Volume 2 of debut album Palomides is set for release in October. You can hear the first part now at washingtonirving.bandcamp.com. The band headline Edinburgh’s Electric Circus on 14 August, and have dates lined up in Inverness, Oban and at the Belladrum Festival.
