The annual games in Stonehaven were due to be held this Sunday in the town’s Mineralwell Park. Highland games athletes were due to compete in the Grampian Light Events Championship as part of the packed programme of events.

But a statement, posted on the website of whisky company Glenfiddich, one of the event’s main sponsors, today stated: “We regret to advise that, for operational reasons, Stonehaven Games have been cancelled this year.”

Ken Scott, the secretary of the games, could not be contacted for comment.
