FCUK Sport 100 Degrees lip balm, 4.99, Boots (www.boots.com). This one if perfect for people who like their lip balm to be functional but inoffensive. This stick from FCUK is water-resistant and offers SPF30 protection, but once you've slapped it on you'll quickly forget it's there. Unlike some lip balms, it doesn't turn your lips white or give them that wet look. The blurb claims the blam has been developed with "world-class athletes" too, although it doesn't say who – we're sure they're really famous, whoever they are.

Designer workout ****

Burberry Sport for Women shower gel, 20, Selfridges (www.selfridges.com). What is more revitalising than a hot shower with lots of zingy gel after a punishing run? Burberry's latest fragrance is fresh and floral and there's no sign of the signature check on the sleek, white bottle.

Cool runnings ***

Reviving foot spray, 2.99 for 150ml, Boots (www.boots.com). Fragranced with mint, witch hazel and cypress, this light spray soothes hot, sweaty feet but doesn't smell too medicinal. We're not sure how it performs compared to other light foot sprays but at this price it doesn't matter.

Don't burn out ****

Ultra-Light Sunscreen SPF55 16.50, Paula's Choice (www.paulaschoice.co.uk). Water-resistant and with a high protection factor, this spray is ideal for outdoorsy types who build up a sweat or are brave enough to take to the water. It has an initial strong smell that eventually fades, it soaks into the skin easily and is non-sticky.

Grease is the word ****

Arnica muscle salve, 9.10 for 45g, Neal's Yard Remedies (www.nealsyardremedies.com). It is recommended that this citrus-scented salve is massaged into muscles before and after exercise. There was no stiffness the morning after a good workout, so it does what it says on the jar. A word of warning, however: apply sparingly. This is greasy stuff and you wouldn't want to melt in an oil slick on the gym floor.

Quick fix ****

Gym Style Instant Fix Dry Shampoo, 4.99 for 150ml, Mark Hill (www.markhill.co.uk). This has a very nice smell and isn't nearly as white and powdery as other dry shampoos. Hair felt like it had been washed first thing that morning – not squeaky clean, but not lank, limp and lifeless either.
