Internet stunt cyclist to launch own merchandise

STUNT cyclist Danny MacAskill is to launch a range of merchandise. The street-bike riding sensation, who became a star after posting videos on the internet, is to have his own product range called “Balance”.

The 26-year-old has applied to trademark the name for a number of goods including cycling clothing, cycle bags and footwear. His application also covers beanie hats, balaclavas, jeans, wallets, luggage, travel bags and even pants.

Trademark specialist lawyer Michael Waggett has been hired to deal with the application to the UK Intellectual Property Office. It is thought the move is also to fend off imitators from selling unofficial merchandise.

MacAskill, who is originally from the Isle of Skye, initially turned down lucrative offers to show off his stunts because he said he didn’t want to be famous.
