Food and drink: Try alfresco (weather permitting)

Should the sun ever come out, Hotel du Vin's new Veuve Clicquot Courtyard champagne bar could be worth a visit. Opened last week at the Bristo Place venue, it offers alfresco dining and afternoon tea as well as bubbly - all under the open skies. Brollies optional.

Cucina at Hotel Missoni launches its new Summer Black Truffle menu on Tuesday, 5 July. Four courses cost 40 with an optional wine matching package for an additional 30.

All Bar One Edinburgh has launched its new 5 O'Clocktails range. Between Sunday and Wednesday (5pm till close), join the party and enjoy taste-bud tingling cocktails for only 3.95 a glass.

There's more to the Royal Highland Show than livestock. This year the Food Hall is crammed with more than 100 exhibitors while the Cookery Theatre will feature demonstrations from leading chefs. The show is also a chance to test out new products - so go hungry and enjoy the freebies.
