Five Things To Do in Edinburgh: Tuesday 25 September

• FILM: Now is Good (12A). A three-star tear-jerker. Seventeen-year-old Tessa (Dakota Fanning) has the same lust for life as her best friend Zoey (Kaya Scodelario), but Tessa won’t live to see her 18th birthday, go to university or raise a family. Painfully aware of how few days and weeks remain, Tessa makes a list of dreams she would like to realise before she loses her battle with leukaemia, including losing her virginity, taking drugs and going shoplifting with Zoey. Tessa’s protective father (Paddy Considine) and flighty mother (Olivia Williams) are determined to protect their daughter as best they can in these final weeks, but the teenager wants to take risks. This includes falling hopelessly in love with hunky neighbour Adam (Jeremy Irvine).

• ART: Picasso & Modern British Art. The first exhibition to explore Pablo Picasso’s lifelong connections with Britain examines his evolving reputation here and British artists’ responses to his work. Originating at Tate Britain, this pioneering show marks the first time the two organisations have collaborated on a major exhibition, which comprises 150 works from major public and private collections around the world, including 60 by Picasso. Highlights include masterpieces from all periods of his career, such as his great 1925 painting, The Three Dancersand major cubist paintings from the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Among the British artists for whom Picasso proved an important stimulus, and whose work is included in the show, are Duncan Grant, Wyndham Lewis, Ben Nicholson, Henry Moore and Francis Bacon.
