Five things to do in Edinburgh tomorrow

MUSIC from Bruce Cockburn, Tutaj/Teraz exhibition at the Royal Scottish Academy plus comedy at The Stand.

1 MUSIC: BRUCE COCKBURN

He crosses genres like an Olympic hurdler, and his songs have been covered by everyone from Elbow and KD Lang, to Barenaked Ladies and Grateful Dead’s Jerry Garcia. However, the man referred to as a ‘virtuoso on guitar’ by the New York Times comes to the Queen’s Hall tomorrow night, to play a little bit of blues, folk, jazz and rock - all inspired by his globe-trotting around the world. Renowned as one of the best guitarists there is, Bruce Cockburn is well worth getting up to get down to. Enjoy.

Queen’s Hall, Clerk Street, 7.30pm, £18.50, www.thequeenshall.net

2 COMEDY: THE FRIDAY SHOW

The weekend’s here. Time to forget about work for a couple of days and enjoy a few laughs, and perhaps, a few drinks. As ever, the very best in comedy are in the house to make sure you chuckle, chortle and guffaw for a few hours. Tonight’s jokesters include Pete Johansson, John Gillick, Sean Grant, Sam Harland, and host Billy Kirkwood.

The Stand, York Place, 7pm, £10 (£9), www.thestand.co.uk

3 MUSIC: WHITE HEATH

Another band who seem to hurdle genres with consummate ease, Edinburgh-based outfit White Heath are one of those groups whose music manages to touch the heart as well as the head. Intelligent and emotional yet full of pop melodies and the like, these fine chappies are, if you’ll pardon the pun, all white.

Cabaret Voltaire, Blair Street, 7pm, £5, www.thecabaretvoltaire.com

4 MUSIC: THE SOUL FOUNDATION

The first in a large scale fund-raising appeal – in aid of the Roma Chooses Life – this charity event will be headlined by The Soul Foundation, a high-octane tribute to the Kings (and Queens) of Soul.

The Voodoo Rooms, West Register Street, 7.30pm, £10, www.thevoodoorooms.com
