Batten down the hatches and don’t let your children see this, or they’ll pester you from now until Christmas 2020 to put one in your driveway.

The looks-fast-when-it’s-parked Huracán goes on sale in the spring and is the replacement for Lamborghini’s best-selling Gallardo. Like its predecessor, it houses a 5.2-litre V10 petrol engine in a body that’s brimming with carbon fibre, but power has been increased by almost 40bhp to just over 600bhp. It weighs much the same as a diesel Ford Focus, don’t forget.

The Huracán also shares a wedge-shaped profile with its forebear. This time, though, the nose appears longer and the tail is higher. Gone is the Gallardo’s automated-manual gearshift, replaced by a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Power is sent to all four wheels and carbon-ceramic brakes are standard. Three driving modes can be selected via a switch on the steering wheel.

Inside, a 12-inch colour instrument panel delivers all the stuff the driver needs to know, from rev counter to sat-nav maps.

In keeping with Lamborghini’s fascination with all things related to bullfighting, the Huracán takes its name from a 19th Century raging beast known for its “unrelenting character”.

Lamborghini hasn’t confirmed prices yet, but Scotsman Motoring will start the bidding at £180,000, plus options. Visit facebook.com/scotmotors for more official Huracán pictures, and click on hexagonproject.com to listen to the snarl of that V10. Mind and not drool all over your keyboard.
