WHAT IS IT?

Quentin Tarantino’s eighth outing sees him diving into the world of Westerns with The Hateful Eight, starring Samuel L Jackson, Kurt Russell and Tim Roth.

Previous Tarantino films may have nodded towards the genre – recent releases such as Django Unchained and Inglourious Basterds being the most obvious – but this latest project seems ready to fully embrace the world of unlawful mercenaries in stirrups.

WHAT’S IT ABOUT?

Hide Ad

Set in blizzard-stricken Wyoming just after the American Civil War, a group of bounty hunters look for shelter and find themselves locked in a dangerous game of deception and betrayal. Think Reservoir Dogs, with more snow and a smattering of ten gallon hats.

DOES IT LOOK ANY GOOD?

It’s hard not to think of Tarantino films as ‘event’ cinema. Since his breakthrough in the early ‘90s, it could be argued that no director’s upcoming projects are met with more hype.

The Hateful Eight’s central idea of ‘who do you trust?’ plays right into the director’s’ strengths - nobody plays out the twists and turns of deception quite like the mercurial Tarantino.

The Hateful Eight is set for Uk cinematic release on January 8
