TV Review: Ross Kemp Back on the Frontline

Sky1, 9pm

Given that he sleeps in a flak jacket and a colander, and is still waking up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat, it’s surprising that Ross Kemp is heading back to the danger-zone.

But the former EastEnders hard man is made of tough stuff, and as he continues his new existence as investifative repoert, viewers are reaping the rewards.

BAFTA-nominated documentaries Ross Kemp in Afghanistan and Return to Afghanistan followed Kemp as he spent time with Britain’s forces in the deadly region of Helmand Province, living with and accompanying troops as they fought a dangerous enemy.

Back in familiar territory for a new five-part series, this time around Ross spent time with Whiskey Company 45 Commando Royal Marines, alongside some of the country’s toughest soldiers, to find out what, if anything, has changed in the last ten years, and if the lives lost and life-changing injuries have equalled genuine progress.

How realistic is it that our troops will pull out in 2014?
