Trailer of the Week: The Dark Knight Rises

IT’S been a big week for anyone excited about Christopher Nolan’s final Batman film. Its spectacular opening scene has been showing in IMAX cinemas before Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol. And a new trailer has just gone online.

So, lot’s more footage of the scary new villain, Bane?

Surprisingly not. Bane barely features in the trailer, which instead offers brief glimpses of all the story’s main players. And the most intriguing is Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman, who – as a few people have already quipped this week – appears to have joined the Occupy movement. “You and your friends better batten down the hatches,” she tells playboy millionaire Bruce Wayne. “You’ll wonder how you ever lived so large and left so little for the rest of us.” If The Dark Knight was about War on Terror-era America, this could be the first superhero movie to tackle the financial crash.

That all sounds a bit worthy.

Don’t worry, there are car crashes and explosions – including a jaw-dropping scene where Bane collapses an entire football pitch mid-game.

When is it out?

20 July, 2012.
