Fierce attack on Sir Sean Connery’s final film, Sir Billi

SIR Sean Connery’s final film has been slated by a Hollywood movie magazine – which has described the animated feature as “woeful”.

Variety’s review – the first to appear since Sir Billi’s world premiere in the US – said the film looked as if it had been “spat out by off-the-shelf” software.

The film, unveiled in San Francisco at the weekend, tells of a Highland vet trying to save the last beaver in Scotland. It has been made by husband-and-wife Scots Sascha and Tessa Hartmann.

Sir Sean, who has announced his retirement from film- making after working on the film, said at the weekend that he was “thrilled” with the final cut of Sir Billi. Other actors who have voiced characters include Alan Cumming, Alex Norton, Ford Kiernan, Greg Hemphill and Miriam Margoyles.

However, the magazine said the character voiced by Sir Sean bears a “less-than-flattering resemblance” to the star, who is thought to have worked on the film more than five years ago.

Its review said: “From Scotland with love comes the most peculiar project of Sean Connery’s career, a woefully anaemic animated feature that counts the actor’s trademark brogue as its most marketable asset.”
